SIMULTANEOUS INTERPRETATION

01.

Simultaneous interpretation

The interpretation of the speaker’s speech by the interpreter takes place simultaneously. During the translation, the interpreter waits a split second before translating, it is called “decalage”. In this way, the interpreter will be able to understand the syntactic structure of the sentence. In simultaneous interpretation, the interpreter works in a soundproof cabin according to ISO standards and equipped with a console, thanks to which he can listen to the speaker and provide the interpretation, through a microphone, so that people equipped with a bidule can listen to the translation. The interpreter must be able to see the speaker.
Some advantages of this mode of interpretation are the times that are not lengthened as well as the possibility of having an interpretation in several languages. But at the same time this mode of interpretation requires the need for technical assistance: a cabin, headsets, radio pocket transmitter and sound systems.
Simultaneous is ideal for events with a relatively large number of participants that may require translation into multiple languages.
Example: conferences, events with participants who do not have a common language

Interpreting

INTERPRETING

.02

Consecutive interpreting

The interpreter takes notes from which he orally translates the substance of the speech by summarizing it.

.03

Whispering interpretation

Whispered interpretation, or whispering, is a variant of simultaneous interpretation: the interpreter is
beside the participants, to whom he transmits the translation in a low voice.

.04

Liaison interpretation

The interpreter transmits information of a sectoral nature based on brief conversational exchanges and without taking notes among the participants.
